Educational Therapy
At Whole Child Neuro, we help each child, teen, or young adult unlock their full potential by educating the whole individual.
Whole Child Neuro creates an individualized and innovative education plan to meet the unique needs of each student. Our team has experience working with students who deal with learning, attentional, or executive weaknesses; we create targeted one-on-one sessions that are tailored to meet the academic needs of each student.
These sessions use research-based techniques and intervention programs to remediate learning differences and work with students on strengthening skills in reading, writing, oral language comprehension, math, and executive functioning. Through a customized approach, our education therapy sessions focus on maximizing strengths and helping students develop skills and strategies to become successful and confident lifelong learners.
By focusing on the “whole person,” we integrate strategies from social cognition, mindfulness, and neuro-developmental construct programs into each student’s treatment plan to address anxiety, confidence, emotion regulation, and motivation.
How is Educational Therapy Different From Tutoring?
While tutors focus mainly on academics, homework help, and test preparation, Educational Therapy dives deeper into the student’s learning profile. In Educational Therapy, we get at “why” the student is struggling and focus on “how” to learn by taking their unique learning profile into account.
Difficulties are addressed through research-based interventions, identifying how social emotional factors impact learning, recommending and implementing accommodations, and developing unique strategies to meet the needs of the student.
To illustrate, if a student has been diagnosed with dyslexia, we might implement a treatment plan that uses a research-based reading program to develop decoding, sight word recognition and overall fluency. Moreover, we may work with the student on how to use assistive technology, such as audiobooks or text-to-speech features when encountering a text that is too difficult to read.
As such, while helping students overcome skill deficits, their independence is increased through programs and accommodations. Our ultimate goal is to help students understand how they best learn and provide them with strategies to build their self-confidence and allow them to perform at their highest academic potential.

Part of the Team
Communicating with all members of the student’s academic team is an essential aspect of Educational Therapy. We can help with the implementation of accommodations and discuss a student’s specific learning strategies with classroom teachers and also make sure the social-emotional aspect of the student is being supported by communicating with any other therapists on your child’s team.
The Process
A student may be referred for our educational therapy in Encino or it may be recommended after completing a neuropsychological assessment.
As a first step, we will schedule a consultation session with you and your child. During the initial sessions, we will identify your student’s unique learning profile, including their strengths and skill deficits and create learning goals.
We then create an individualized and research-based education therapy program that builds on your student’s skills, remediates weaker areas, and teaches strategies to address specific learning objectives. We collaborate with the Whole Child Neuro team to provide intervention through an interdisciplinary approach.
Education therapy sessions are typically scheduled once or twice a week, depending on the needs of the student. Our ultimate goal is to teach skills and strategies that create independent learners, who no longer need educational therapy. We regularly meet with parents and provide written progress reports to keep the team updated on learning goals.
